elmex® SENSITIVE PLUS products were developed in collaboration with dental clinics specifically for the care of exposed tooth necks. elmex®

SENSITIVE PLUS toothpaste and mouthwash contain highly effective amine fluoride. This elmex® active ingredient supports the remineralization of dentin and protects against tooth decay. The toothpaste also has low abrasiveness (RDA 30), which prevents excessive abrasion of soft dentin when brushing.

Elmex® SENSITIVE PLUS mouthwash is the ideal supplement to daily dental care. It contains a combination of the highly active active ingredient amine fluoride with a protective polymer, which supports the action of elmex® SENSITIVE PLUS toothpaste. Clinical tests have shown that the special protective system elmex® SENSITIVE PLUS, consisting of toothpaste and mouthwash, significantly reduces tooth sensitivity when used regularly and is proven to prevent tooth decay.

Exposed tooth necks require special care:
What are the causes of tooth sensitivity? Do you sometimes get toothache after eating too hot or too cold food and drinks? The most common cause is receding gums, which expose the tooth necks, which are then left unprotected. Unlike a dental crown, the surface of the tooth necks is not protected by hard enamel, but is made up of softer dentin. Not only are they more sensitive, but they also suffer from excessive abrasion of the dentin and are therefore particularly at risk of tooth decay. In this context, the term tooth neck caries has come into use.
Therefore, be gentle when caring for exposed tooth necks. If you brush your teeth horizontally and choose a toothbrush with hard bristles, the gums and necks are exposed to too much pressure. In addition, this can cause excessive abrasion of the dentin, resulting in the formation of so-called "wedge-shaped defects". Therefore, it is better to use soft toothbrushes. It is also important that the toothpaste has low abrasiveness (RDA 35) and the soft dentin of the tooth necks is not excessively abraded. It would be best if a dentist or oral hygienist practically demonstrates to you which of the tooth brushing techniques is most suitable for you. An important addition to tooth brushing is rinsing with fluoride mouthwash, so that even those places where the toothbrush cannot penetrate are treated.

How to protect exposed tooth necks and hypersensitive teeth:

• Brush your teeth after every meal, at least twice a day
• Use an anti-caries toothpaste with Fluoride and a low RDA value (max.35)
• Brush your teeth with a soft toothbrush, do not brush horizontally and do not press the brush hard on the surface of the teeth
• Apply elmex®gelée, a high-fluoride gel, to all sensitive areas every day until the pain subsides. Then brush your teeth regularly with this gel once a week to protect your gums from cavities.
• Rinse your mouth with a mouthwash for sensitive teeth at least once a day, always after meals.
• Every evening, carefully clean all interdental spaces using dental floss or an interdental brush.
• Have a preventive check-up with a dentist twice a year
